Swear Filter (in game)
Hello, I'm another angry Guild Wars player.
People turn the Chat Filter off and they are allowing themselves to see inappropriate words. You report someone when you see them use inappropriate words. Why would you report them for using these words In non-filtered chat? I think It's absolutely fine to swear In non-filtered mode. If you don't want to see them swear, just turn the filter on.
Remove the inappropriate language report button. It's inappropriate to have It without chat filter on because by all means, when you disable the chat filter, your allowing to see these kinds of words thus agreed to you don't care about this type of language. REMOVE THE LANGUAGE REPORT BUTTON.

I agree to a point. If you don't want to see, it turn on your filter. However, this filter is cheatable and people still are able to cuss you out. Besides, if you don't want to get reported, don't swear. Btw, this should go in sardilac.

Personally, I see it the way you do. Swearing is part of how humans express themselves. There is a chat filter. If people don't like those words, they can turn it on.

i guess its an intresting arguement, i would agree if the language is simple "bad words" but if its something racial or hateful to another person they should be able to report you.

The chat filter is the second line of defense for the protection of little kids who aren't allowed to see people swear.
First line? Not swearing in the first place.

yes that would be fun, make yourself think your playing in a church and watch your mouth 24/7. i think a better idea would be to disable to report button for people with the filter off. this way people cant report someone for language that they shouldn't have seen in the first place. but yeah i agree 1000000%, this is lame and stupid. next thing you know some idiot will report you to anet for swearing on your own vent server

Because Five year olds don't know all the words by that age anyway.

If someone is swearing at me at least I want to know what particular sentence enhancers they are using at me. YOU ***** leaves me wondering . The Chat Filter is for young people or children. Even though most kids now days are smart enough to know how to turn it off, parents might find comfort in knowing a filter is there. Simple way not to get banned is to leave the potty mouth out of chat.

Krunk and Mook are two satisfying words you shouldn't get suspended for.
Just say 'holy krunk, you mook!'
I think there was a gwonline topic about this. It was massive. You can get suspended for swearing in private chat repeatedly with a buddy who does not report you. The popular belief towards the end of that topic was that a bot program is watching.
Edit: Now I'm thinking it was in this forum!
The topic started about some dirty private chat in Grotto. lol
Anyone remember that topic?

I think the reason there is an inappropriate language report option is because you have immature people who try to get around the filter. I'm always a little cautious of who I swear around, some people are just out to get others.

I think if people are using strong language every other word, or racial language even when not directed at a person should be considered worthy of suspension. Hey, maybe it can help you with your language in real life, which is a good thing unless you work in Harlem or you're a dock worker.

Were you just cussing or flaming someone? I don't think they would ban you for saying "awww **** I just failed this mission" but if you are cussing someone out I don't think you should be banned for swearing, I think you should be banned for being rude.

If you've got the filter on and someone works around it, great, they should be reported.
If you turn off the filter, you have veto'd your right to complain as far as I'm concerned.
That being said, how I think the world should work isn't how it works; I keep swearing to PMs with trusted people or to guild chat (where I know that we all have big dirty mouths). I won't swear in alliance chat as my alliance runs from 16 year old kids or some even younger to their grandmothers. Too much of a mixed crowd. The safest bet is just not to swear even if the system sucks. :P

Sorry, not that easy.
The debate is that if there's a filter available, and you have it off, should you be able to report people for swearing if you've agreed to see it?
Get with it.

You either got banned for racist language or for using harsh language and harassing someone at the same time. I've never heard someone get banned for just normal swearing. If that was the case I would have been banned so many times by now.
This did not deserve its own thread.

Swearing = words.
Words should only be silenced if they are being offensive. [racism for example]
If the person is 'cussing someone out', then it's not the swearing, but the harrassment that's an issue.
If someone is purposefully avoiding the filter by saying stupid sh1t like so, then yes, report them if it offends you. Otherwise, shove a cork up your ass and keep the filter on.
:3 just my lovely opinion!

I agree with the OP about the chat filter part for the most part. But then again, yeah. Thing is, there is a lot of annoying people in game, and every time I see them, I just wait for them to cuss so I can /Report and get them banned. They're useless anyway. So about once a week I do that, just to sweep away the trash.
I'm not offended by cursing (though racist remarks are unnecessary, and I don't approve), I just /report to get away the specific people who make problems.

I fail to see why people as a whole get all worked up over words in the first place. They're words. They cannot harm you in any way, unless they scream really loud so it hurts your ears. Or if someone makes shurikens shaped like letters and throws them at you. People get "offended" far too easily nowadays. They're all just words. Call me whatever racial slur or four letter word you want, it doesn't affect me in the slightest because I realize this.
Also, people getting banned for swearing privately among friends who are all comfortable with it is the epitome of retarded.
